New this semester:
Our Year of Social Media initiative has concluded
and all of the videos are online. And they're amazing.
Recent Press: I was in the NY Times talking about social media; on NPR talking about Wireless Internet, the slowest Internet in the USA, and iPhones; and in Businessweek talking about mapping broadband. I am an Associate Professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Faculty Associate of the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. At Illinois I am appointed at the Institute of Communications Research (College of Media), Communication (College of Liberal Arts and Sciences), at the Coordinated Science Laboratory (College of Engineering), and the Graduate School of Library and Information Science. I am also affiliated with Science and Technology Studies, Informatics, and The Illinois Center for Wireless Systems. My research investigates communication and information technology infrastructure and public policy -- especially the way that legal, social, and technical elements work together (or don't work together) to shape systems of communication like the Internet. Usually, I read. Sometimes, I write. Often, I drink coffee. I might be found in a cafe drinking coffee and reading, or at home drinking coffee and writing. Or just drinking coffee.
