Afro-Cuban Lullaby

A beautiful piece that I first heard played by the great Manuel Barrueco. The piece is a traditional Cuban lullaby, but Leo Brouwer gets composition credits for having adapted it for the guitar (presumably the original is for voice, but I have not found the lyrics or any other version of the piece).  It is variously called “Canción de cuña,” “Berceuse” and “Afro-Cuban Lullaby,” all of which mean that it is a soothing song meant to lull a baby to sleep. I have my doubts about the lullaby effectiveness of the abrupt pizzicato ending: it sounds more humorous than soothing, like Debussy’s “Golliwog’s Cakewalk.” It is, however, irresistible.
