Mad World
This piece has a rather complicated genealogy, but yes, it is a classical guitar version of the 1982 song by New Wave synth-pop band Tears for Fears, “Mad World.”
“Mad World” was not a particularly huge hit for Tears for Fears (they are better remembered for “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” and “Shout”), although it was their first commercial success. The song returned, however, in 2001, as part of the soundtrack for the disturbing (and awesome) film Donnie Darko—this time covered by Gary Jules and Michael Andrews. Jules slowed the song down, and made it completely minimalist, introspective and frankly, emotionally moving in a way that the original was not. Certainly the Jules version went on to become a major hit internationally (and #1 in the UK).
That version, by Jules, has inspired numerous arrangements for acoustic and classical guitar; the one I play here is by Kenneth Juhl Jensen, who does some pretty amazing fingerstyle versions of popular songs on his YouTube channel—and like a lot of contemporary guitar players, he also writes up tablature and sheet music for his arrangements for free.
