This excerpt from the 1875 Atlas of Illinois Counties, shows the towns of New Philadelphia and Hadley Station within Hadley Township, and the town of Barry in adjacent Barry township, all in Pike County, and the area roads and railroad. As you can see from this map, the Hannibal and Naples Railroad, completed in this area in 1869, bypassed New Philadelphia, and spurred development of the new town of Hadley Station along the railroad line. An 1876 Map of Pike County shows similar landmarks, and an excerpt of an 1879 Rand, McNally map shows New Philadelphia's location in a broader scale.
