Performing Spain: Theaters of Memory in Iberian Cultures is a symposium devoted to the study of Iberian theater and performance from a trans-historical perspective, bridging Golden Age theater (1580-1700) with contemporary performance, playwriting, and theatrical practices in the plurinational setting of the Iberian peninsula.
This first symposium (out of our envisioned series of a larger network that we tentatively plan to call Theater and Performance in Iberian Cultures Network (TPICN)) will focus on historical memory in order to create the opportunity for critical dialogue and to push the limits of “historical memory” beyond the conventional focus on the Spanish Civil War, toward an overarching vision of larger implications for Iberian dramaturgies and performance traditions.
