Notes on Use
Searches are case-insensitive, but returned Deseret forms may be differentiated by case.
Variant forms are grouped by Deseret spelling and sorted by frequency.
This is not a general Deseret Alphabet translator. Instead, the Comparative Lexicon
is intended to document only attested historical spellings: how words appeared in 19th-century Deseret Alphabet sources,
what variant forms they took, where and when those forms occurred, and which spellings were most common.
Because the lexicon is a work in progress, some spellings remain under review.
Determining whether a form reflects a typographic error,
a transcription issue, or a genuine dialect difference is an ongoing part of the project.
We occasionally find miscoded words in the lexicon. Sources have been made as transparent
as possible so readers can check entries and alert us to possible errors, which we will correct as soon as possible.
